Raúl Pérez-Fernández

Raúl Pérez-Fernández received the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics in 2012 and the M.Sc. degree in Mathematical Modelling, Statistics, and Computing in 2013, both from the University of Oviedo (Spain). In 2017 he was awarded the joint title of PhD in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Oviedo (Spain) and in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University (Belgium). From that moment on, he became an FWO Postdoctoral Fellow within the research unit KERMIT at Ghent University (Belgium) until he came back to the University of Oviedo (Spain) in the capacity of Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics, Operations Research and Mathematics Education in 2018. Currently, he is Associate Professor and acts as vice-dean of the Faculty of Sciences.

His main research interests include aggregation theory, field in which he has explored the aggregation of different types of structures such as real values, multivariate data, compositional data, circular data, strings, and, mostly, ranking data. The aggregation of ranking data, which was the core topic of his PhD thesis, also interacts with the field of Social Choice Theory, to which he has made some contributions searching for consensus states that define a unifying point of view between the use of pairwise information (initially supported by Condorcet) and positional information (initially supported by Borda). His most recent research also explores (computational) statistics and, in particular, its interaction with imprecise probabilities.
