Ignacio Montes

Ignacio Montes received the BSc on Mathematics from the University of Oviedo in 2009, where he also got my MSc degree and the PhD degree on Mathematics and Statistics in May 2014. After finishing his PhD, he spent some months at the HEUSIASYC Research Unit of the Technologic University of Compiegne as a postdoctoral researcher. After this short stay in France, he came back to the University of Oviedo as a Substitute Professor. Then, he has been a Assistant Professor at the Carlos III University of Madrid, and currently he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of Oviedo.

His research can be split in two main topics: stochastic orders and imprecise probabilities. On the one hand, stochastic orders are methods allowing the comparison of uncertain quantities. His research in this topic is based on the study of stochastic oders, mainly stochastic dominance and statistical preference, focusing on their properties, connections and possible extensions to the multivariate framework. For these aims, he usually makes use of the Theory of Copulas, which uses a simple function called copula to capture all the information about the dependence. On the other hand, Imprecise Probabilities is the generic term used to refer to all the mathematical models that serve as an alternative and extension of the usual Probability Theory when we deal with imprecise or incomplete information. In this framework, his research focuses on the theoretical part of IP. In particular, he is interested in how to define stochastic orders when dealing with imprecise information and the extension of dependence models when dealing with lower probabilities. Also, he has made some works related to conditioning, distortion models or approximations of coherent lower previsions by easier to handle models.
